RICOH InfoPrint Manager™ V4.12.0 – Available February 24th 2023
Amy Buckingham, WW ATS
RICOH InfoPrint Manager™ V4.12.0 (English) is available February 24th from the Ricoh software trial site, on a 60-day trial basis. To request a trial, go to this URL: ricohsoftware.com/trial_request. For internal users, be sure to include 'ricoh' as part of the e-mail address to automatically be approved. For existing customers, Ricoh account teams need to request no-charge upgrades from Techline for V4.12.0.
The Ricoh Software InfoCenter is updated with 4.12.0 documentation: help.ricohsoftware.com/swinfocenter/
Starting with Release 4.12, customers must agree to the terms of the Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) prior to installing the InfoPrint Manager software.
The following was compiled from the CRD and Release Notes, with the highlights in red denoting that they are in response to customer requests. I have added explanatory notes in blue, which are only for RICOH Internal Use.
Key highlights in RICOH InfoPrint Manager V4.12.0:
AIX/Linux/Windows:
o New rules-based printing functionality
Flexible printing rules accelerate productivity and help eliminate waste and unnecessary cost. Based on input criteria (70+ attributes) InfoPrint Manager can re-route jobs for print efficiency and enforce policies such as duplex printing. Rule-based printing can set a policy to enforce B&W instead of color for certain jobs, to limit number of copies, or to split a large AFP job across multiple printers. Print rules can also preflight (preprocess) a job step, set job properties, run a script or 3rd party program, route the job to a different printer, or send an email (such as when a step completes, or an error occurs).
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Procedures, the Using print rules section and RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the Attributes for print rules section.
This significantly changes how jobs can flow through IPM, simplifying the workflow, and allowing for more complex and customized workflows. It also improves IPM’s support of an office environment, by enabling forced compliance to certain policies. The script action works the same as for a Custom Step.
o Easier management of Access Control Lists: A specific new hierarchy was added to ACLs. If you restrict access to a server or queue, access to all objects contained by that server or queue is automatically restricted, even if the objects are not explicitly protected. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Understanding InfoPrint Manager Security (FST and LDAP) topic.
For customers who have printers and operators in various locations or cities, this makes limiting their access to only the local printers very easy.
o Added color (FS45) support in two transforms: Added color (FS45) support in the PCL2AFP transform and for PCL inline transform. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the PCL2AFP command section. Color PCL to Color IPDS printers i.e. PCL color in equals color out. The PCL inline is for AFP jobs with PCL embedded in Object Containers.
o New function added in InfoPrint Manager Web Management Interface (WMI)[/li][/ul]
o Added Artifex interpreter to the PS2AFP transform for PostScript and PDF files.
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the agspdld utility section.
Ripping of B&W jobs is likely faster than with Adobe interpreter. Print file color quality may be improved vs Adobe.
o Support for embedded PDF in AFP in Job Viewer: This function allows customers to preview embedded PDF data before printing it. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Viewing a Job in the InfoPrint Manager Web Interface topic.
Implemented support for new AFP capabilities:
o Several new attributes were added to list the setup names available on a printer, for printers that support IPDS ACR #516 – Setup Name and MO:DCA ACR #191 – Setup Name - Allows customers to setup printer-specific settings in an automated way, relieving the burden on print operators to have to select these printer setups manually. This reduces the potential for costly printer setup errors, improves productivity, and saves time/money. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the setup-name, default-setupnames-fidelity, enable-setup-names-ready, and setup-names-ready topics. Currently, there are no RICOH printers that can take advantage of this function, but Canon/OCE printers will likely be able to do so.
o QR code with image barcode support (MO:DCA ACR #185, IPDS ACR #511, and BCOCA ACR #76) - Provides the ability to put AFP images on AFP QR code barcodes for bill payment and marketing applications.
o New finishing options/operation (Crease finishing/Fold-out – MO:DCA ACR #174 and IPDS ACR #492) - Supports new AFP post-processing controls for crease finishing and fold-out operations.
o New finishing operations (Generic Trim - MO:DCA ACR #186 and IPDS ACR #510) – Supports new AFP post-processing for generic paper trimming.
o Updated Tomcat to version 10.0.27. This requires changes in how the HTTPS connector is defined. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Enabling Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) in the Web Server for HTTPS protocol topic.
o Added new notification trigger when job-deadline-time is exceeded. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the Notification events and event classes chapter.
o Added backup capability to the server error.log when wrapping is disabled.
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Procedures, the Customizing an InfoPrint Manager server error log topic.
o Enabled UTF-8 support for hot folder .att files.
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Specifying job attributes topic.
o Externalized the LDAP server 'Use case-sensitive search' setting in SMIT and InfoPrint Manager Web Management Interface (WMI).
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Procedures, the Managing LDAP security for InfoPrint Manager for Windows section.
o Enhanced accounting log with media information. You can now get more accurate default media information in the additional-accounting-log-attributes. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the additional-accounting-log attributes topic.
o If a destination is in shutdown state, this state is preserved during a server restart.
o Enhanced InfoPrint Manager Administration and Operations GUI (Java GUI) DMG (Device Management GUI) to support Single sign-on authentication.
This is about the Printer Action Check Status…, More information… dialog.
o New 64-bit AFP Workbench 3.08.04.01.
Added new and improved help systems in the following areas:
