Amy Buckingham, WW ATS
InfoPrint Manager V4.11.0 (English) is available February 25th. The InfoCenter is updated with the V4.11 documentation. Note that for any trial requests, the customer will receive V4.11.0, on a 60-day trial basis. To request a trial, go to this URL: ricohsoftware.com/trial_request. For internal users, be sure to include 'ricoh' as part of the e-mail address to automatically be approved.
For existing customers, Ricoh account teams need to request no-charge upgrades from Techline for V4.11.0. Note that these orders may not ship until April 8th.
The Ricoh Software InfoCenter is also updated with 4.11.0 documentation: help.ricohsoftware.com/swinfocenter/
Many of these highlights are in response to customer requests. I have added explanatory notes in blue.
Key highlights in RICOH InfoPrint Manager V4.11.0:
Linux and Windows:
InfoPrint Manager can now also be purchased via subscription, instead of a perpetual license. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Managing InfoPrint Manager licensing section.
Especially important for new customers, or existing ones who have not renewed.
Windows:
InfoPrint Manager for Windows supports multiple server (pdserver) instances making it more comparable with the AIX and Linux variants. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Windows: Getting Started, the Tasks you do using the Management Console section.
Allows for the separation or segregation of workload and/or functionality within IPM. Allows easier ACL management for companies. It can provide these benefits:
Lifted DPF (Distributed Print Facility) limitation within InfoPrint Manager related to N-up and orientation. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Windows: Planning Guide. The z/PSF limitations are still in place.
AIX/Linux/Windows:
New Web Management Interface (WMI) web-based application, intended to be used for similar functionality available currently via SMIT on AIX, Management Interface on Linux, or Management Console on Windows. In this release, it has limited functionality for managing service and users. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Setting up the InfoPrint Manager Web Management Interface section, or the Help system.
Very important for those customers who currently have IPM implemented in a cloud environment, or for IPM admins who must rely on a system administrator’s access to the IPM server.
Web GUI Enhancements:
Added Serverless printing for the InfoPrint Select client. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Using InfoPrint Select for Windows with serverless printing section.
Easy means of replacing preprinted forms by specifying overlays which are additive (in addition to) to those specified by the form definition of a job.
Adobe APPE transform:
Added functionality for the printer setup name to be loaded with the job settings. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the setup-name attribute. There are no RICOH printers that can take advantage of this function, but Canon/OCE printers will likely be able to do so. This was architected by the AFP Consortium: IPDS ACR #516, MODCA ACR #191.
Support for ACR 514 - Data Object Resource Equivalence. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: PSF, Server, and Transform Messages.
Enhanced in-line transform to support multipage PDF object container. For AFP jobs that contain multipage PDFs, this is important for RICOH VC printers
Increased limitation of custom steps (transforms) command from 255 to 4095 characters. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the destination-pass-through, other-transform-options, printer-escape-codes, and server-address attributes. Allows for more complex Custom Steps and/or more steps within a series of steps.
InfoPrint Manager now supports Microsoft Edge (based on Chromium engine) browser for the Web Administration Interface and Web Management Interface.
For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Planning Guide, the Client software prerequisites section.
Changes to OS support:
Linux:
Modified the services startup mechanism from initd to systemd for the Linux variant. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Linux: Procedures, the Using the systemd services section. Adds the ability to start/stop services on Linux as expected by Linux sys admins.
Windows:
Release 4.11.0 includes resolution for these CCRs:
AIX/Linux/Windows:
Linux:
The respective release notes are attached. Refer to these for complete lists of Limitations, Known problems and workarounds, and CCRs for each release and OS:
Reminder: If you are upgrading multiple servers, keep all clients at the older (4.9.1 or earlier) level until all servers are upgraded to 4.9.2 or higher. Then upgrade the clients.

- Allows users to access and use RICOH InfoPrint Manager and its features for a defined period (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years) of time in exchange for an annual subscription fee
- Provides a lower entry level pricing for new customers allowing purchasing managers accounting flexibility to use OpEx budgeting over CapEx
- Offers a greater per year discount with longer initial term
- A flexible alternative to traditional financing or leasing
- Improve overall IPM system efficiency and improved GUI performance
- Separate types of print workload (e.g., production vs. distributed)
- Differentiate workloads from various locations (e.g., for the purpose of minimizing the impact of heavy of print loads in one location vs another)
- From a single server, drive production continuous forms printers and/or many distributed printers
- Drive a high volume of jobs to a smaller number of printers
- If one pdserver hangs, stopping and starting that pdserver will not affect other production processes
- Enables more granular security by segregating who is authorized to print where
- Can separate retained jobs for better organizational management
Lifted DPF (Distributed Print Facility) limitation within InfoPrint Manager related to N-up and orientation. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Windows: Planning Guide. The z/PSF limitations are still in place.
AIX/Linux/Windows:
New Web Management Interface (WMI) web-based application, intended to be used for similar functionality available currently via SMIT on AIX, Management Interface on Linux, or Management Console on Windows. In this release, it has limited functionality for managing service and users. Very important for those customers who currently have IPM implemented in a cloud environment, or for IPM admins who must rely on a system administrator’s access to the IPM server.
- Facilitates the management of the IPM server in the cloud.
- Provides an alternative to remote access methods that are often unavailable to IPM admins
- Provides a web-based method to access server functions using LDAP security
- About 50% of the most-used functions are available, i.e. viewing the server log, making changes to ACL, starting/stopping servers, etc.
Web GUI Enhancements:
- Change Forms… added to the Jobs menu
- New Input Tray selection option in the Job Submitter
- Track each users’ login and logout times (new log in the Web GUI work folder). This must be turned on in the new WMI to be activated.
Added Serverless printing for the InfoPrint Select client. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for AIX/Linux/Windows: Getting Started, the Using InfoPrint Select for Windows with serverless printing section.
- This introduces a new way to use InfoPrint Select and bypass routing of jobs to the IPM server in two different scenarios:
- All jobs bypass the IPM server
- Jobs bypass the IPM server only when the connectivity with IPM is severed, i.e. due to network outage or for disaster recovery
- Improved efficiency and performance for preprocessed jobs that can bypass the IPM server
- Accounting information is still provided
Easy means of replacing preprinted forms by specifying overlays which are additive (in addition to) to those specified by the form definition of a job.
Adobe APPE transform:
- Added pragma CMYKCUSTOM, which helps with replacing one color found in Text and/or LineArt objects from PDF. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the pdf2afp and ps2afp commands: transform PDF or PostScript data to AFP section.
- Added support for font mapping (substitution). For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager: Reference, the apped utility: starts the apped daemon section.

- Added support for Microsoft Windows Server 2022 for server and client.
- Added support for Microsoft Windows 11 for client.
- Dropped support for Windows Server 2012 on client systems.
Linux:
Modified the services startup mechanism from initd to systemd for the Linux variant. For more information, see RICOH InfoPrint Manager for Linux: Procedures, the Using the systemd services section. Adds the ability to start/stop services on Linux as expected by Linux sys admins.
Windows:
- Backup IPM/Windows configuration files on upgrade.
