New Software Licensing Interface
By Jack Condon & Elizabeth Graham
You may have noticed recently that the interface for downloading software and generating license files has changed. The new interface was created at the request of Marketing to improve the customer experience by using the same style interface for downloads, activations, and revokes. The new activation interface is found at New Link; this is the URL included in current EID notes. For traditionalists, the previous interface is still available at Previous Link.
Comparison of using the new interface to create and download a license versus using the old interface:
New Method:
1) User selects “Software Activation”:
2) User puts in EID and System fingerprint and presses “Confirm Content”:
3) User then selects “Activate” button:
4) This screen appears:
The ‘Download License Key’ button is the equivalent of the previous ‘Save To File’ button. In both cases, the license file created using the System Fingerprint is downloaded to the PC you are using to access the license system.
Also, instead of the scrollable text box shown in the old interface that allowed the user to select and copy the license text, the ‘Copy License Key to Clipboard’ button loads the license text to the Clipboard, ready to be pasted into a text editor.
5) Pressing “Download License Key” gets you this dialog:
6) User selects ‘Save File” , then presses “OK” to get this dialog:
7) They then should save the downloaded file to a place that they can access during the install.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Prior Method:
1) User logs in with EID number:
2) When this dialog appears, press “Activate”:
3) Fill in the System Fingerprint and press the “Generate” button:
4) This dialog appears:
5) Pressing “Save to File” causes this dialog to appear:
6) And the user should select ‘Save File” , then “OK” to get this dialog:
7) They then should save the downloaded file to a place that they can access during the install.
